Hi I’ve accidentally cracked my wall and want to know the best way of fixing this, there is not much support on this part of the wall behind it so the plasterboard moves in a little when I press it and I’m struggling to find a way of how I can fix this problem, thanks
Here is a bigger image I’m not sure what you mean by dot and dab but I believe the board was screwed in to studs behind it, problem is there is one stud where this wooden plank is and no stud where the original picture is on the right. Where the crack is the board goes in a bit but if I press on it a bit lower from the crack it doesn’t move much. So it moves a lot in just the area of the crack, I’m thinking to maybe get an have and see if it’s possible to glue the edge of the plasterboards together to make it a bit strong then apply plaster or jointing compound but I don’t know which one
Ah. Rake out. Lash the board edges with PVA and leave 12 or move hours to fully dry. Mix toupret powder thick so it don't slump and work in joint. That will stick edges together and may work for you. Be easier then replacing and strengthening studs
OP,
The horizontal crack appears to follow a join between two plasterboards - from what you say about movement, & maybe some "missing" framing then perhaps it would be best to remove the top board - the board from the crack up - & investigate?
Use your knife to cut into inside corners at abutments where wall meets ceiling etc. This will preserve adjoining decorated surfaces. Also cut into & release the crack.,
With luck you might be able to remove the board in one piece.
The thing is that if you do a less messy bit of a repair job then you might be doing it again down the line?
Top right the paper has rippled for some reason?
