I have a 150mm crack in the kitchen ceiling which is about 10mm wide in the middle and has come away by about 2mm- can I just use polyfilla and repaint it or is there a better way to repair it? (I do not want to redo the whole ceiling in Artex)

Get a caulking gun and decorator caulk and fill under the artex that's loose. Push and wedge something like a broom pole up against it so it dries flush. Then use Polyfiller,

Above suggestion would work but personally i'd rake out the crack and knock back any peeling artex. Then prime the area with thinned emulsion and repair it with artex, knock up a small amount, apply, and copy the pattern using an old brush, clean off excess with a damp sponge, allow to dry, prime with thinned emulsion and paint.
Problem with the caulk method is any voids will encourage cracking under pressure from a roller in any future decorating you do, the cracks may well be small and hardly noticeable but could peel completely off.
