Hello everyone. I have a cracked ceiling.

It's a plasterboard ceiling on a flat roofed extension which is about 20 years old. The roof above is sound.

I'm looking for the best way to repair this. I was wondering if I could scrape the crack out, then scrim and fill it. Then some good heavy lining paper over the top to cover it all.

I don't want the crack to come back. If the whole ceiling needs to be replaced then so be it but I'd prefer not to if possible as it will mean replacing all the coving too and it becomes quite a big job then.

Thanks for looking.

Have a look at my thread in Plastering and Rendering. Steve has posted some photos and information on doing a repair like this.
