This morning I heard a few sharp and loud cracking noises from the loft that got me worried so I went up to have a look. Below you can find the pictures of what I've found.

I've replaced the insulation this winter so i have been up there a few times and I've never noticed this. Sure a few cracks here and there and probably this web element was cracked as well but I don't think it was like that. The cracks seem to be on one side only. Anyway, do you think this is something to worry about? Do I need a carpenter?

The cracks appear evident when looking at an angle.

To me, it looks like what is commonly known as "checking" but I can't figure how serious it is. I tend to worry over nothing so... I'm not the best person to judge this
:(

The trusses are 35mm wide and the deepest crack is something liKe 16mm but it's at an angle of about 20/30 degrees or less so the actual affected cross section is limited.

Should something be done now or should I apply the "don't fix it if not broken" philosophy and see what happens?

They're shakes not cracks and are normal in aged timber. As long as none are severely across the grain (yours all appear to along the grain), then no dramas. I'd keep an eye on it though as they can be detrimental if they manage to affect the full depth.
Does the house have any spooky provenance? ;)

Not as far as I am aware... but you never know. I am not from the UK and where I come from, if you hear a "CRACK" like that coming from anywhere in your house it means something is wrong
I've been living in the UK for a few years now so I've gotten used to the odd creaking noises here and there but this was louder than before so I got quite worried (my other half was not happy about me opening the foldable ladder and climbing into the loft at 6 in the morning  )
It might also be that I have noticed those shakes but the noise comes from something else.

Isnt it more likely to be expansion and contraction of your gutters or soffit and fascias etc, or some other element of your roof? So 6am as thats when sun comes up and temp starts rising maybe? In the heat i gut some creaks and snaps etc from fascias expanding and plastic bits moving on the house

Nowt to worry about there. As noseall says, standard defects in the wood. Do you have brown facias and gutters? Brown tends to expand and contract like crazy. Very creaky noisy.
