I'm looking to paint wood cladding in different tones of walnut. Is there a way a can create different shades from a single tin, rather than buying several tins of different colours?

Many thank

Not quite what you're looking for, but a tin of light and a tin of dark could be mixed in varying proportions.

If you use a water stain it is possible to make up a weak stain mixture and build to the desired depth of colour using different numbers of coats of the same reduced stain mix. Far less easy to achieve with spirit based stains.

BTW technically you'll end up with different densities of the same colour not different colours
