I want to create a cheap parking space that will last 3 years. It will have half a car on it as its merely an extension of my tarmac driveway.

I want to convert a patch of grass to a gravel patch to park on. I want to border off each end with a strip of wood so it looks nice and tidy.

So do i:

Dig 12 inches deep
Compact soil
Put gravel down
Compact gravel
Put weed membrane down
Put 6 inch deep gravel down and cement the wood boards in somehow?

Or is it a little more complex than that?

You seem to be doing twice as much work as may be necessary!
I would dig only 6" deep, fill and compact 4" of ballast (mixed chippings and sand) or crushed limestone or similar then top off with 2" of chippings as the final surface. As it's temporary if it compresses further than add more chippings.

Well i wouldent say 3 years is temporary?

Also 6 inches does not seem deep at all? Its on clay soil?
