Hi,

the storage heater has died. I'm pretty sure it's not the elements since they were replaced about 7 months ago.

It started making an electrical crackling sound about 4 weeks ago in the evening (while heating up or charging I think) making me think it may be a fuse?

Hoping that someone can please advise on the cause and a fix,

thanks

Check the DP switch that feeds it (with the power off of course).

If the cable/flex is cooked - replace the switch & cut back the damaged conductors.

If the elements were replaced, its my guess that one of the elements is not properly terminated.
Don't know about Creda, but the dimplex ones screw into a ceramic teminal block - it could just be loose.

seconded, i suspect a loose connection to the element, especially if they were recently changed.

If you intend doing this yourself and havent before, be careful, the bricks inside are very dense and fragile.

Thanks for the responses guys, I was thinking it may be the fuse link after reading other threads, but the loose connector could be true - when I replaced them, one of the two screws the secures the bottom of the middle element was snapped in the unscrewed position, and I always assumed that the connection there was sketchy at best. I think this fits with your suggestions? Though it has worked this long fine, apart from the noises.

Is there an easy way to fix this - I guess I could bend the element's connector slightly to make it contact, or is there a way to "pack" the connector to fill the gap?

Thanks again for the replies,

cheers

I was going to suggest solder, but given the environment, I dont think that would be wise

Hello,

further investigation has revealed a burnt out or snapped wire. It is the wire which connects to the little square blocks that the elements fit into - would this be the part called the terminal block?

The screws on this part are totally ceased, so I may have to get an electrician to repair/replace them, but would rather buy them myself and only pay for the repair. I can find cheap terminal blocks online but there is no picture so don't know if this in the the correct part,

thanks again,

Steven

Forgot to add - I see I can buy 1, 2 or 3 way terminal blocks - which should I buy?

thanks

Steven

Hi,

it looks almost exactly like that - cheers,

I am guessing it is a two way?

thanks

Hi,

anyone able to point out to me which type of terminal block I need? One way, two way or so on?

Sorry for the bump but it's getting very cold...

cheers

Hello again,

thanks so much for that, in my haste I hadn't noticed that you had made a clickable link - apologies.

Thanks again for taking the time to find that for me and post,

cheers
