crimps or connector block...

hi...if connecting a joint in a dry wall box are crimps the preferred method or connector blocks..is there anything in regs that says you cant use plastic connector blocks only ceramic as ive been told...also same question for connecting lights in parallel...crimps, connector blocks or small junction box.....

plastic connector blocks are fine in this application (ceramic blocks are for stuff that gets hot)

crimps and terminal block are both acceptable methods, i belive crimping is generally regarded as more robust though (hence why crimps get an exemption from the accessible for inspection rules). Make sure you use a decent quality ratchet crimper if you decide to crimp though.

soldering is of course the best way to join cables but it's not something i reccomend a begginner to try (if you do decide to solder it then slide heatshrink on first, bind the cores paralell with thin wire, solder and heatshrink)
 
If your joint is accessible then either is OK. Crimp only if the joint is going to be permanent, remember that each time you undo a crimp joint you will lose an inch of cable length.
