I assumed that when I wrote "introduce a potential (into the cage)" that it was implicitly clear that I was talking about a potential different from that of the cage!If you change the bit in bold to potential difference you are about there, the potential difference is what kills.As I see it, with a true Faraday Cage, the concept of an 'extraneous-conductive-part' which could introduce a potential (into the cage) would not really exist - because if such things existed, it wouldn't really be a Faraday Cage.
