I’d use energizer 40w eqv candle. Nice and bright. Warm colour 2700

Silver topped to stop light going up, I think they call them crowned.
Popular in the 70's Crown Silver they are called

You could try a "filament style" led bulb. The ones I've used chuck most of the light sideways, with not much coming out of the end.
There are some crowned ones like that on eBay.
Many of the Philips bulbs have a side emiting lens in them - is this enough crowning?
