I think you need to get one right before setting another, Blup, and it's crystal ball's go, unless he takes too long and we get impatient and bored.

I know the answer but I'm thinking of the next clue before answering, otherwise I feel under pressure, and I might make a mistake with the clue.

So import ant gets the insect brought in from abroad.

Where does the "sounds like" come in? Theres no homophone there.

Wouldnt "Significant insect brought in from abroad" have worked better?

Yes, possibly.
The rules of cryptic clues are not strict, and they can always be tweaked to either provide better or different guides to the answer.
'Sounds like' usually does indicate a homophone, but it's not a strict rule.
I suppose if one was being pedantic one could argue that 'import ant' is spelled differently to 'important'.
And after setting a clue there's always the after-thought, but that would mean editing the clue, and some may be working on the original, where others may have the advantage of the edited clue. So why not leave it as is.
But glad to have you on board as a participant.

Did twisting Hindu pride make this Catholic twister? (9)

Thinking out loud here:
I'm immediately drawn to a particular Catholic word, something like, but not eucharist. Well if it is, I don't know how.
twisting suggests rearranging Hindu pride but that's 10 letters.
Hindu pride, known as abhimana, but that's only 8 letters.

Still thinking.....

One of the saints that were not quite as pious as supposed to be, but I haven't yet seen any Hindu pride connection:
Augustine?
Callixtus?
