Is CT-1 Sealant suitable for repairing a wood burner flue? We had a repair carried out about a month ago to the collar around the flue pipe which consisted of the builder using CT-1 to seal it to the flue. Now when we burn a 'manufactured' paper wrapped log we get a very strong waxy smell after about an hour.
The chimney was swept about a month before this repair and we had no smell during the time of the sweeping and the time of the repair. Prior to the sweeping we could hear birds pecking at the flue pipe in the early hours of the morning and we had a damp patch inside the cupboard where the flue comes down to the burner. Could the birds, (we suspect crows), have pecked holes into the flue pipe and the builder has squirted sealant into the holes?

Not at all, also was the builder qualified in flue repairs? Should get someone who specialises in these things as it's a safety thing.

Landlord has been round earlier to have a chat about it and agrees he can still smell a waxy air even though we haven't lit it for about 36 hours.
Apparently the company tasked to do the repair were busy so subbed it out. He has no details about the people that did it but will get it looked at by a qualified HETAS engineer.
Good landlord who even agreed to get a new roof fitted to one of the sheds, (8' x 6'), that lost it's felting in the storm last night. The roof is OSB board with no internal rafter supports so has bowed over the years. He will get this sorted properly but it may be a few weeks or so as all his farm workers are busy at the moment.

Lol, the roof will be done by someone experienced in picking carrots. o_O

The shed roof will be done by one of his joiners. The house roof by an outside company.
