Is CT-1 Sealant suitable for repairing a wood burner flue? We had a repair carried out about a month ago to the collar around the flue pipe which consisted of the builder using CT-1 to seal it to the flue. Now when we burn a 'manufactured' paper wrapped log we get a very strong waxy smell after about an hour.
The chimney was swept about a month before this repair and we had no smell during the time of the sweeping and the time of the repair. Prior to the sweeping we could hear birds pecking at the flue pipe in the early hours of the morning and we had a damp patch inside the cupboard where the flue comes down to the burner. Could the birds, (we suspect crows), have pecked holes into the flue pipe and the builder has squirted sealant into the holes?
