Recently had a new kitchen fitted. All walls were replastered, and it appears possibly painted a bit early and the plaster not totally dry...anyway, have addressed this, but the one cupboard is attracting very small mites..?? Brown in colour, size of less than a pin head. My other half has tried all sorts of treatments, bleach, soaps, sillit bang(!!) but the little beggars keep returning. The kettle, microwave etc are nowhere near the affected unit now, so there is no condensation/damp air to encourage them. Any suggestions as to how to get shot of them please..???

Cleaning with diluted bleach is good, but they will be hiding in the joints of the cupboard, and other inaccessible areas so isn't guaranteed to work.

Starve them, any food in paper packets such as sugar or flour make a great home for them. Buy some tupperware style or clip lock boxes and store all food this way. You should also put any existing food in the freezer for a couple of days to kill any that might be inside. The also like pasta, cereals and rice, basically you need to carry out the above process for anything that isn't tinned or in a thick plastic packet.

If all else fails you can just cook and eat them, without harm.

Thanks for your reply mate, have tried the bleachy thing, but will persist... Ironically, there was only mugs in that particular cupboard?? No foodstuffs at all....

You can get various "crawling insect killer" sprays that you apply to a clean, non-absobent surface such as a floor or shelf. It dries to a film that the insects pick up off their feet, and lasts quite a long time (or until you next wash the surface)

These mites are liable to get into stores like biscuits and flour. Plastic tubs with tight-fitting lids will help keep them out, but they are very persistent.
