Cuprofit not firm fit, is that normal?

For the first time, I used copper push fit fittings and notice they are not as firm as I would like. Water pressure helps, but they don't inspire much confidence.

It's just the rubber ring that creates a seal under pressure and the teeth stop the pipe blowing off, right?

Yes as you say the ring is the seal the grip ring is just there to stop slipping off. Oh and to cut a neat ring around the apprentice's finger when he sticks it in the hole, moments after you have told him not to :D
 
Thanks. I'm not sure I'm too impressed by them compared to soldered joints.
