does anyone know what rating fuses protect the mains supplies that runs around streets to homes? ie. at the substation/transformer. and how many homes does this protect? what size cable leaves the substation?

And if i do put a shovel through a supplier cable, will i get a shock? will the fuse at the substation blow? what size cables are beneath our pavements on a typical street?

just curious (i know a couple on here are ex-DNO). ;)

AFAIK, overhead supplies are 400A

put a shovel thru an underground cable will most likely short the live to surrounding earth and shouldnt go thru you unless its an all metal spade. some underground supplies are fused on te HV in side, not LV out

Might shower you with molten metal, though, and/or give you flash-blindness...
