I'm laying a 25mm layer of Celotex TB3000 on our existing concrete floor. (Note: I've yet to move in to the 60's bungalow so that part will be easy.) What I'm wanting is to cut shallow grooves in the insulation to take the heating's 10mm copper pipes. As I'm likely to be needing 70m of groove I'm wondering how best to do it.

How would you make a 10mm wide and deep groove in Celotex :?:

Ceoltex is one of the easiet things to cut,ive seen it done with a hand saw,and amongst other things an electric bread/meat knife!
I'd use a hand saw and use a staright edge obviously, cut down the required depth and use say a chisel or scraper to take the groove out,it comes out surprisingly easy

I can image a tenon saw would be easy to handle. Do you cut a vee groove or two parallel vertical grooves and dig out the middle?

That's going to be a nasty job. Have you checked out pre-grooved boards? There are several on the market although the thinnest I can think of off hand is 30mm thick.

You could make up a hot wire tool (battery and a loop of wire) or maybe buy one and adapt it. You can pick them up for about ten quid from hobby shops.
