Thanks big-all. I love this forum, people like yourself are so knowledgeable and helpful!!!
The floorboards are supporting the wall but I was intending to leave the bit under the wall intact and just cut the end bit so that the joint with the new floorboard wont be visible. How close can I cut the the floorboard to avoid problem?
are you talking boards or sheet material planks being around 145mm wide
what is the wall made off and what is supported above it [upper floors and attic if you have one
are you in a traditional house/flat with wooden floors and plaster ceilings and have a void under the floor
or do you live in a modern building with concrete covered with foam and flooring ??
My house is Victorian terrace, all floors are pine floorboards. The wall in question is a brick wall. Not sure id it's a supporting wall. it may support the attic (unused)
you cannot simply cut without checking all the way up to the attic
you also cannot cut away from a joist as the remaining floor will turn into a lever with several tons on it
if you need fully new boards in one room the joins will have to be in the other room
