I have recently had our boiler removed, this has left a power socket on the wall with a built in timer switch which we used to use in conjunction with the boiler. I would now like to remove the power switches. I have lifted the floor boards and can see 2 power leads (thick grey cables) going up the wall to the socket, I assume this is part of a circuit; one cable running up to the socket, the other running down and carrying on.

I would like to terminate the cables beneath the floor boards, but if I just cut them and seal them off, will this break the circuit and have a knock on effect to other areas?

Many thanks in advance.

Carl.

Hello Carl,

If the two cables are forming part of a ring main, or radial circuit you will need to 'crimp-lug' the connection if it's under the floor.

Without testing or knowing the characteristics of the circuit I cannot advise you really. RE; Maybe one cable is the end of a radial and the other went to your stat etc etc. Do you have a voltage indicator (not a neon screwdriver  ) or a electrical meter of some sort ????

Cheers

Ed.
