Cutting the bottom of skirting in situ

It was built in 1905, and it's all the original brickwork etc. The boards I've lifted have come out quite easily.

Well, as easy as cut nails ever do.

Leave the skirting board on the walls and see if the other half likes any of the Ogee pine architarves. Fix that above the skirting and pin 3mm ply over the two to create a stepped edge at the start of the ogee profile.
 
I done this last year using a cheap multitool. I used an old piece of laminate floor as my offset and saw guide, then ran the tool right along it. Took minutes. I wanted to conceal speaker cable before my new carpet was laid.
