cutting skirting boards

i am going to fit some space wardrobes in my bedroom
i need to cut out of the skirting a 150 wide slot to put a piece of framing which comes with the kit

i have drill bits and wood chisels and a jigsaw but cant figure how to cut the skirting in place.

can i have some advice please on how to do this

thanks both
of the two advices i would like to have the tool in no 1 but for this job its not withing my budget
so i wll have a go with the batten and chisels..

Drill out the bulk of the wood then using really really really sharp chisels you can carve out the rest. Blunt chisels will just make a mess of the job. It helps if you can first score the finishing lines with a stanley knife to produce a straight cut edge.
