Cutting top off fixed timber post

Can anyone advise the best method for taking off about an inch from the top of a timber post already in place

I could use a saw but it won't be a very straight cut
Sorry, I was being flippant, make up a flat jig out of 4 bits of wood and clamp it squarely on the post, then use it as a cutting guide.

In essence like this but it doesn't need to be as elaborate as that if a one off and can just be held in position with a clamp.

Lots of ways to crack this egg, a sharp saw will help.
