can someone help me. a plumber installed a new bathroom and fixed the hot water sytem so that the oil system would heat the bathroom bathroom radiator (previously only heated by the back boiler of the fire). since then water has been pumping out of the overflow into the yard. he claims that the coil in the cylinder is bust or someting and its not his fault. Apparently the waster is being pumped up into the small tank i think (it is not the ball cock as that has been checked) i need a new cylinder now. is it possible that it is his fault or merely coincidence??

It isn't unheard of for work on the pipes to cause a leak in the coil just because of the slight movement, but it would have to be weak anyway. So no negligence implied - not his fault.

oh yes, in response to fitz1. the back boiler is rarely used as the fire is nver lit. our main source of fuel is oil as gas is not really used in northern ireland (it is not freely pumped as in mainland UK). the overflow pumps out water continuously day and night whether or not the oill heating is on.
