Hi,

My honeywell stat has given up (Installed in 02/03), the adjuster has just popped off.

I did wonder why the hot water was extra hot!

Do you guys rate the Danfoss and Drayton units?

I understand it will be a straight forward swap, just three wires.

Thanks.

Ordered a Danfoss one to replace the Honeywell. Can anyone confirm if the earth needs to be connected? Thanks.

The Danfoss stat should have wiring instructions. That's the best I can do without the exact model.

Are you sure that the earth wire is actually an earth?

What terminal did it come off the existing cyl stat?

It's not been unknown for installers to use the earth as a hot water off (satisfied) cable to save on wiring.

If the new stat has a square within a square, denoting its double insulated, then no earth is needed.

This can usually be found on the stat itself and within the manufacturers instructions for installation.

Hi, the knackered Honeywell stat only has the 3 connectors, no earth, however the replacement Danfoss ATC (http://heating.danfoss.co.uk/PCMPDF/9611v05.pdf) shows 4 connectors (3 normal plus earth)

The wire used is heat resistant 3 core (earth and neutral have had brown sleeves put over them to confirm usage)

If this earth does need to be connected I will replace the 3 core with some 4 core.

If that's the case cancel the order and get yourself a Honeywell L641 stat as it'll be a direct replacement.

Hi,

I got no problems with changing the wiring for 4 core if the earth is needed.

Stat is already dispatched and I would rather have my hot water working sooner.

Thanks.

Ok we'll depending on location of your stat and the wiring centre you may be able to add an additional earth to the stat from that depending on the wiring and that'll save running the 4 core.

Good point! The wiring centre is only about 40cm to the right of the stat currently; the new one needs mounting higher up, bloke who fitted the cylinder decided it would be good to mount it about 15m from the bottom;

I will try and pick up a little bit of 4 core and get it done correctly.
