I am planning fitting dado to the main hall and top landing. The stairs have a hand rail on the wall side and are open on the other. Should the dado be fitted up the stairs, removing the handrail or just leave the handrail? Or is it just up to what I want?

Presumably the modern resin type is preferable to wood or plaster mouldings?

TIA

You will feel a lot safer with the handrail there, even if you don't use it.If you fall without handrail, you will have nothing to grab on to.You could start the dado the same height as your handrail to blend it in and maybe the same colour.

Good point re the handrail and the suggestion about maintaining it level with the dado.... thanks!
