A tabloid that supports the government that is hellbent on dismantling the NHS, and also creates a hostile environment for overseas workers (who have always supported the NHS) and actively been pro-Brexit, seems somewhat surprised that the UK's biggest employer, and most important organisation, might be going down the pan.

Unsure whether to laugh or cry, I'll just continue on in dazed shock at the utter stupidity of this country. But at least we are in control now, with our shiny new blue passports and £140 billion cost to leave the best trading bloc in the world ... lucky old us.

Don't worry, the septics will come and rescue us with their health insurance schemes...

That's what the Daily Fail actually supports ;)

And may I ask what on earth are out gov doing about it? You'd think they'd start the ball rolling in getting new people trained up yeah? Wrong. They got rid of the bursaries for nurses, radiographers, midwives.... charging them the normal uni fees. Why would anyone want to now become one of those with a huge debt, to start working a very hard job and a low wage? That's right, they don't. Numbers of applicants has fallen.

Yeah, well done brexit AND well done our government. Utter stupidity for sure.

Blimey, we agree!

But on top of that a recommendation regarding the 'overhaul' of student fees has suggested that general levels are reduced to circa £6k...

But 'high return' degrees be allowed to rise to above £13k...

And what do those 'high return' degrees include?

Courses in Medicine !

You really couldn't make this s hit up!

It's called democracy.

It is what everybody who votes for the Tories (in any election, local included, as that just feeds the beast) wants to happen.

But isn't it really the EU that is to blame?

2030?

It's like staring at an iceberg ten miles away then trying to steer away within 100 yards.

So are these experts just giving the warning now only to panic in 2030? Surely if they can foresee it they can give decent suggestions (given circumstances) to avoid it? They are experts after all?

If you doubled the amount of EU labour in the NHS it still wouldn't be enough to close the gap.

Granted, it could be 5% less labour after brexit, that's not going to fill the hole. Just doctors, highly skilled professionals make up less than 10%.

It's easy to blame it on brexit (as if to suggest the NHS shortfalls all happened in the last two years lol) but it's not a brexit problem, it's an NHS incentive problem.

They already have. The solution is to fund the NHS and not only allow but provide more incentive to doctors and nurses, from anywhere, to come and work.
But, neither will happen as that is against current government policy, and also against the "will of the people" who say we should close our borders.

You can read plenty of expert advice on saving the NHS here: https://www.theguardian.com/society/2018/jan/05/how-to-save-the-nhs-experts-offer-their-big-ideas

I think you're making that up a bit aren't you. Immigration is far higher from countries outside of the EU so what you're suggesting is just rubbish really.

#remoaners.NHS cannot be a bottomless pit for everyone forever for every ailment.Set up as a safety net, never designed to support so many idiots from cradle to grave who seriously take it for granted

Not at all. The key words of mine were provide more incentive to doctors and nurses, from anywhere, to come and work.

People don't want to come here and work, because of this and this, and other similar reasons. There are nicer places to go and work now.
