I'm a keen DIYer but a novice with roofing work. I have a house circa 1915 (Edwardian) with a main roof tiled with rosemary tiles. I am just doing some repairs and wonder if anyone could help.
I have missing/damaged ridge tiles and missing roof tiles

- is it difficult/expensive to get good matching replacements?
- what kind of mortar mix should I use to re-bed the ridge tiles - what ratio of sand/cement - what kind of sand ? do you need lime ?

Help very much appreciated

Thank you

1) Shouldn't be difficult with the number of reclamation yards about, but may be expensive (good old ones cost more than good new ones :( )
2)4:1
3)Soft sand,lime not necessary

Might find readymix mortar is ok, should say what mix it is and what to use for- roughly. Wouldn't use richer than 4 to 1. and this may depend on which cement is used. Also you need an additive- name not known. (or a pva liquid instead). That's as much as I know.
