Hi there,

I have a damp patch on my chimney breast about half way up. The firfeplace was bricked up some time ago - there is an air vent at the base and the chimney pot is capped. There is no rising damp and nothing above. The chimney has recently been swept to clear any debris. The source of the damp is a mystery. Any ideas?

if the chimney runs all the way up the house, vent it on the lower ground floor and at the top level, allowing the chimney to breathe
also make sure yr chimney pot is vented.

give it a few months to dry out, and you should be ok...

p.s make sure its not a leak somewhere on the roof or upstairs etc etc
