Damp coming back?

When I moved into my house a couple of years ago I had a damp problem in the front room. I had this sorted out by a company. However recently (approx 2 years later) I have noticed a discolored patch just above the skirting board on the chimney breast - which was part of the area affected. It is approx 3 inches by one inch. Could this be the damp coming back or another issue? Thanks for any advice!

Unventilated chimney breast? rain getting down chimney? Check the roof.

Both my chimneys have caps on them, even then could rain getting down be causing it?

Even if they have caps on it is still a good idea to fit a vent at the base.

The other possibility would be water getting in via poor pointing/ flashing/ flaunching on the chimney.

How was the damp remedied?
