Damp damage below my bathtub?

Hi all,

I’m just looking for advice on the condition of the wall and floor underneath my bathtub.

For context, we moved into this house 5 years ago. 4 years ago, due to a leak on the ceiling below from the tub sealant coming apart, I looked underneath and noticed it looking like this then. I assumed it was left undecorated, hence how it looks, it’s only recently I’ve thought twice and wondered if it’s some form of damp damage.

For context, all the walls around it and above are fine (tiles on the wall above the bathtub), the fittings for the bathtub drilled into the wall are still fine (not rusted, it predates us being there).

If indeed the wall is decaying, I’d welcome any advice on correcting it.

Thanks in advance!

OP,
Pics #6 and #7 and #8 show white stuff that could be fungus damage to the flooring & the skirting - the dark floor area looks to be damp. Its difficult to tell exactly whats going on - the bath is in the way.
There's no need for skirting below a bath.
The black "paint" below the tub could have been a previous attempt to seal the plaster against damp?
Can you post pics of the bath rim sealant to the wall tiles?
The nib of plaster next to the tub (pic #3) is either badly plastered or it has water damage?

Thanks for taking the time to read and reply, Ree.

I agree with your comment about the white stuff; I don’t think that was there 4 years ago, we have resealed the tub a couple of times since then, so possibly some water has leaked through and down at times, causing that. I also agree with what you say about the skirting board; not sure why it’s there, I can only guess the room had a different use in the past, as some of the green looking patches on the wall have a faded pattern on them; possibly old wallpaper?

I think the nib of plaster is badly plastered / filled from an old fitting of some description, as there are wall sockets in there too (maybe a pipe from an old boiler or something?).

See the attached pic of the area above that wall showing the bath tub and tiles.

Thanks again for your help.

Not sure whether I see anything unusual other than ugly black plaster and a wee bit of black mould and the effects of a leaky waste. All looks like it can be attributed to the bath. In other words, if the bath wasn't there the issues wouldn't exist either.
That said, your house is probably like a million others and could use an external wall/floor/roof insulation upgrade.

Many thanks for taking the time to read and reply Noseall.

Thanks for putting my mind at ease; I’ve spoken to a couple of other people today and what you’ve said seems to be the consensus. You’re right about our house needing an upgrade; I’m planning on getting round to those upgrades this year and in the coming ones!

Thanks again
