Hello,

I have a problem with damp outside my conservatory wall and I could really use some advice.

Long story short the ground surrounding the house is like clay and retains an enormous amount of moisture. I looked online for advice on how to control damp it suggested laying down paving to direct the rainfall away from the property. So, we lay down some paving stones with plastic sheeting underneath. It’s also on a very slight slope away from the house. Afterwards we repainted the wall.

In the six months since doing this a green damp line has begun to appear around the conservatory area (shown in pictures). So, what we did doesn’t seem to have worked.

Other sites say that we need to install an entire drainage system but that is too expensive right now.

Can anyone give any advice on other ideas to control the damp?

I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

OP,
The render appears to be going down to ground level - this can cause capillary action "sucking up" moisture behind the render.
Why not remove a few stones, some paving & the plastic membrane to give a clear view of whats happening - then pic & post?
Any signs of damp defects inside the conservatory?
