Hello, i am thinking of installing a small multifuel stove, to which i would like to have it supply me with hot water only, i have had three different plumbers out and all have different ideas.
At the minute i have an oil boiler, that supplies the hot water and c/h, on a sealed system.
Plumber 1 = fitting an indirect water cylinder with wessex flange, that over flows to a header in the loft.

Plumber 2 = Twin coil cylinder on a open vented system

Plumber 3 = cant be done.

Any help much appreciated

The only way between the two options would be the twin cylinder, but have you considered a thermal store which would provide you with ch from your stove also you would get mains pressure hot water. Have a look at the gledhill web site for more info. Although it would cost more they are worth it.

I am not impresed by your idea of getting plumbers to attend to give free consultations!

Whilst I would not attend that senario in any case, its not in my view the best way to get the information that you need. You will just attract those with not enough work to do and usually thats because they are not the best.

The suggestion of an open vented thermal store is probably the best solution because any solid fuel burning appliance is not fully controlable and provision needs to be made to disipate heat by boiling off water if ever required.

I think you're being a bit harsh on him over the consultation thing, all he's done is ask for an explanation of roughly what's going to be done - not a design guide. For all we know, he's just been told three different things and is now wondering which give his money to.

Thanks John, i think agile needs to take a big jump off that high horse.
I was asking for prices and think im entiled to ask how it will be done, as i was expecting the same answer every time, hence my problem.
One of them mentioned the thermal store, i dont think the money would strech to it.
I think i will go for the twin coil option.
just for thought,
Plumber 1 was recommended to me by a friend, will his system not work or is it just not efficent?

There are lots of different variations to achieve the same result, hence the the differing advice given. And surely if plumber 1 was the recommended specialist, he should have given you more than one option too. Maybe mentioning how much you had to spend may have pointed you in the right direction, as I'm sure that you would have double checked to know that you weren't getting ripped off on parts.

The best solution is a open vented thermal store you can then feed a sealed central heating and supply your hot water from the thermal store.

My advise would be don't bother with the solid fuel. More hassle than it is worth unless you have a readily available supply of free fuel and have the time and energy to prepare the fuel for the stove.
