Hi all

The mother has Iroko worktops that were last oiled about a 14 months ago (approx 6 coats) .

In the main they are fine but there are a couple of dark spots around the sink, resulting from clothes washing powder.

How can we get rid of them?

Do I need to spot sand the area all the way back to the wood (TBH I don't know if the oil or wood is stained)? And if so will the surrounding area and the new area blend in with regard to colour difference.

I would rather not have to sand the whole 6M of work top back.... And if I did I think I would just hit then with acid-cat lacquer rather than oiling it again.

I have no idea about getting stains from washing powder out, but as you seem short on answers if it was me I might try blotting paper under a warm iron to try and draw out some of the oil in the same way as candle wax is removed from carpets. The stain might come with the oil.
