I've recently had external French doors installed and now there is a step down to the outside world of 300mm. I was thinking of installing decking to take the step further into the garden, ie. open the door, walk out (no 300mm step to jump down) and walk out into the garden and then step down.
Where the decking will go is dark and damp until it reached 2400mm into the garden. Decking area is small 2040mm x 2400mm.
Q. My initial question is, should the decking be raised (cement post) or should I just create cement/paving stone corner bases that are slightly raised and install decking directly onto this?
Q. Is there a particular wood I should be using for this situation (damp/dark)?
Q.I'm guessing that I will not need planning permission if I don't go above 300mm and the 20mtr distance to road/path!
