Hi all,

My question is if to use LSZH cable or PVC... it used to be if trunked use PVC as the LSZH wasnt worth the extra cost as the trunking would outway it benefits, and that LSZH was slightly less flexible.

Not sure if any regs have changed, so thought id see if anyone knew or had an oppinion before i got install a few new points in a friends office next week.

Thanks

Hi there, firstly is this a favour or a legit job in an owned or tenanted property??

LSOH is better fire rated and if your working to a client spec then stick to it or you may not get paid if you defer from the spec. The landlord may have a preference and maybe a clause in thier agreement in relation to fire regs etc.

On the flip side a few extra data points for some beer money or a favour for a mate shouldnt really concern you on whether its pvc or not. Tell them its what cable you have in stock and let them decide if it is suitable and in line with any type of spec.

You have mentioned in you title Cat6. Do they need Cat6, is it for basic PC use or large data packets such as Video, CAD files etc.

Cable sheath type is irrelevent to its performance but terminating it correctly and testing it with a decent tester is. Continuity is only 1 test compared to the 13 a DTX1800 does in 10 secs for Cat6.

Its your client so you know what they expect but the problem with data cabling it will work even when installed badly but not to its full performance parameter and the problems will be intermittant.

The best PC out there is only as good as the data cabling it sends and receives the data over. Poor cabling poor performance
