the way people work on a price on new builds, and the way the work for a day rate on residential houses differs, with a lot more care and attention given for the latter ... hence my preference for day rates.

Aye fair; people tend to get absolutely nailed on price on new builds / can only compete price wise by coming in super low but then can only make a reasonable profit on it by getting through a volume which means hogh speed, low attention

Price work for one off jobs and bespoke residential is a little different and doesn't start out with a professional negotiator wanting max profit out of the job which does remove some of the rush - as motors I've found most my trade hires don't seem to work significantly different speeds regardless of how they're paid so for me it's more a gamble on how much they'll get done
