Hey,

I can do it without any joins (except for over the drain cover), but I'm wondering if aesthetically it might look better with joins. To mimic an internal hardwood floor.

One section will be 24 boards of about 3.2/3.3m long so I've got 3.6m boards. The other section will be 10 boards of about 2m long so I've got 4.2m boards (to cut roughly in half).

Or am I talking rubbish?

It comes down to personal choice and material wastage. It sounds like your deck happens to suit standard sizes of decking with minimal wastage.
