Hi all, first post here

Just Had deck done by pro outfit. It’s out of sight as step is lowish, but couldn't help notice finish on these vertical boards under the edge board.

Already paid and only just noticed. Am i being fussy?

my thoughts for what its worth
2 boards each side off the joint [2+2]shoud be tight underneath and have 2 screws to give support to the front edge because assuming 143mm boards the front perhaps 50-65mm will be unsupported

Composite doesn't rot.

I agree that it doesn't "rot" but a few years ago I had to deal with some "possibly cheap" composite that seem to have split because the mud from a nearby tree had migrated under the low level boards. The boards weren't solid- they had an internal profile similar to polycarbonate sheets.

That said, when I fitted composite decking at home (Trex), end grain touching the floor was fine years later.

The stuff quickly blunted the blade on my new chop saw... :(

I've just priced a job for composite decking, my timber supplier recommended I avoid the polycarbonate type composite board as its problematic.

Unfortunately I know this to be true, a friend of my mine fitted about 50 square meters in a rectangular shape. The joists were set at 300 centers as advised, blah blah blah, atleast 40 boards have split, the boards are black and in a south facing garden, but he sourced his own spacer/clips "albeit exactly the same from ebay" but this invalidated the warranty.

So I priced on Solid "Cladco" .expensive stuff at 12400 British pounds, but they are supplying the lot, I'm not going to Ebay.
