Decking

Don't know if this is the right area but its wood related.I have an area of 4x3 mtre we would possibly like to deck out. now I'm thinking of just buying 3 mtre lenghts and laying straight ,but oh no she would like a bit of a pattern any ideas of how to do this without to much waste.

get some paving slabs and do a proper job that will last, and not turn green and slippery

Well I did suggest this but she likes the look of wood.

Lay on diagonal and should not be a lot of waste, also reduces slipping as you are less likely to walk along planks which offers least grip.

Why should she slip on it?if its wet you don't sit out or hang the washing out.
