Hello

We have recently moved into the house that we have built. Its still a work in progress at the moment and we are currently living downstairs whilst we do upstairs.

In the next couple of weeks the stairs will go in but we are debating whether to decorate (paint and wallpaper) the wall where the stairs will be before or after the stairs go in???

Our stairs are Oak and we will be treating them once they are in but if we wallpaper that wall the wallpaper may get damaged whilst they are being installed.

On the other hand it will be more fiddly to wallpaper that wall if the stairs are already fitted

Does anyone have any advice?

Thankyou

Decorating is the finishing trade, so you would be better off to wait until all other works are finished.

Tough little situation you got there! From experience, I'd do the walls before you put the stairs in. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to wallpaper around stairs! Then again, I guess its obvious to say that you should take extra care while installing the stairs so that you won't have to redo any areas.
