Decorating gone wrong

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the added input.

I will defiantly get a hydrometer as that looks really helpful to guide when to do the painting. I'm in no rush so I can afford to allow it to dry out and maybe wait for the summer months. It never occurred that the moisture levels would be an issue in the bedrooms so I just went ahead and did the decorating. I do have a dehumidifier for doing the washing (funnily enough in a room that has no issues) so I can get that bringing the humidity down prior to the work. I think I have a number of steps to take care of in the bathroom as you have all mentioned above, but you guys have been very helpful. Fingers crossed I can get it all under control.
Moisture will always go to the coldest areas in the house, for example rooms with outside walls. You need to keep humidity levels permanently below 70% if it goes above that for prolonged periods mould will return.

Also it might be worth getting a damp meter / detector to make sure the walls are properly dry before decorating and to check that the problem is just internal condensation and not coming from anywhere else (through the walls from outside for example).

I do wonder about picture of the green room ending in 174537.jpg in the first post. This is the house extension that was done prior to us moving in and also contains the bathroom on the opposite side. The area is a bit colder generally as there is a garage and utility on the ground floor. There is a steel lintel installed above the windows and I did think that there might not be enough installation between the junction of the ceiling and the wall (hence the running paint around the coving), however the circular damp spots that you can see on the window head in the picture seem strange. Could there be an issue there as well?

Many thanks.
