Sounds daft but is there a definition of a boiler house? We are getting a quotation from Crown Energy to resite our gas meter and the preference is to put it in a small building (2m x 2m) attached to the Village Hall kitchen. This has both a door leading to the hall kitchen and another to open air. In practice its like a porch or lobby. However in this "Porch" is the gas boiler, a floor standing balanced flue variety.
When searching for acceptable locations I came across a PDF document from National Grid in which it states:-
"Locations To Be Avoided
The meter should not be installed in the
following locations :
• In close proximity to any source of heat, or
where it may be subjected to extremes of
temperature. The meter should not be sited
within 300mm of the flue pipe from any gas
appliances. Boiler rooms should be
avoided.
• Where food is stored.
• In bathrooms.
• Where it might be liable to damage or
cause an obstruction.
• Where it might be affected by a corrosive
atmosphere or liquid, such as directly
under a sink.
• Under stairways, in a common passageway
or other part of the building forming the
only means of escape in case of fire."
Its the Boiler Rooms should be avoided bit that is concerning. As long as it well away from the boiler ie 600mm+ can I state that the building is an entrance lobby rather than a boiler room or will the fitters turn up and refuse to install it?
