I had the problem with the puff of smoke after it was warm. Stalled once or twice when cold.
After reading all advice. I thought it was injector pump. I have a spair motor that has only done 60 thousand kms, so I took that injector pump of that one to a mecanic because I didn't know how to time it. Drove it there, 4 days, 700 dollars later I have to get a tow truck because he can't start it. He rang me up and asked me if there was any tricks to start it.
Any suggestions to fix the problem would be appreaciated.

There's a strong possibility that the injector pump is electronically coded to the vehicle immobiliser.....it certainly would be if it was UK spec.

I don't know anything about this motor so its rather difficult to make direct comments - but if its anything like Mitsubishi's ordinary diesels it shouldn't be too bad.
See if you can spot the mechanism that shuts off the fuel to the injection pump. This may be in the form of an electrical solenoid on the side or top of the pump - failing that it could be a vacuum connection as per Mercedes. Its best to disable this, if you can't be sure that its performing.
Ascertain that fuel can reach the pump inlet, then unscrew one of the high pressure pipes leading to the injectors. Any one will do, just crack it open though, don't remove it.
If you crank the motor now, fuel should spray out of that pipe if the injector pump is working.
Thats all I can say really at this stage!

Hi guys iv got a delly had it 4 years had the same problem with starting and cutting out had the pump seals done on mine as when it was started after 2 or 3 mins it would cut out.. and be a right PIG to start up again .... that cured my problem.... but with yours just not starting IT COULD be the primer pump on top of your diesel filter for some reason they will let air in and you have to change it fore a newer one ...as when my friends went we inspected it and could not find where the air was getting in ...so that could be the problem-BUT if you go on (Mitsubishi Delica Owners Club UK) or MDOC for short there is a hive of info all about bad starting and so on hope that helps (big iain)
