Yes, I don't know what I was thinking of. Tails in cavities being the obvious case.

However, 51mm. in a stud wall didn't look right and, being picky, the cable exits the back box at an angle not >50mm. deep.
Why didn't he go straight up?

As far as I can see, the concept of so-called 'Safe Zones' [as described in 522.6.201(i)] only exists for cables buried less than 50mm deep. For cable buried deeper than that, the issue of 'Safe Zones' therefore does not seem to arise at all. Is that not correct?
Yes. It is correct. I was mistaken.

Mind you, in practice, unless one comes out of the back of a back box, how one can get a cable from an accessory to a place which is "≥50mm deep" without it ever being <50mm deep is another question!
One could exit the back box in a safe zone until 50mm. deep.
He did not do that in the video. Perhaps that's what confused me about allowed or not.

Thanks for confirming what I thought.
One could exit the back box in a safe zone until 50mm. deep.
Indeed. In fact, the cable would inevitably exit the box in a safe zone - and, if one did it in anything like the 'natural'/'obvious' way, as it 'dived down' until it got to ≥50mm below the surface, it would remain in the safe zone until it was at that depth. However, as you point out, if one 'really tries', it is possible for it to leave the zone before it reaches that depth!

Sitting on the fence..... Having watched 2 electricans do a similar thing..... on a new wall....

So there is a wooden framework for the wall, in which they need to run cables down.
As no plaster boards exist yet, they need to secure the cables somewhere, otherwise
a) They would just be danglling at unknown height
b) Unable to locate them when the plaster board is on.

Now, in future when someone wants to rewire this will be very annoying as you won't be able to pull new cables thru.
If modifications are required, it is very difficult to know where the cables run.
Also not in safe zones.

But I can understand their reasons.
