Hello there folks, my first post, asking a quick q on Protherm 80e.

CH all OK,

DHW, flow OK, but only warm, (approx 40 deg C) with DHW control wound to the hottest setting. Boiler cuts in and out OK, with CH on or off.

Suggested remedy from the Engineer who visited is to de-scale the DHW heat exchanger, presuambly by connecting a power-flush type machine to the input and output of the DHW side of the boiler and flushing for an hour or two.

Other remedy avail is to change the heat exchanger completely, this is costing abt another £100.

Q's, 2 of:

1. How much should a power flush of this type of DHW heat exchanger cost ?

2. Is it better to de-scale/flush the existing exchanger or to replace, bearing in mind the additional cost ?

Cheers for yr time and ideas :D :D .

Most of us who'd clean them, would remove it to do so, in some favoured brew. A hour would normally be OK for that, if it comes out fairly easily.
SOme of us wouldn't risk "holing" it, so would always put a new one in.
I suggest YOU accept the risk, because it's small, and have it cleaned.

Hope someone has measured temps to diagnose the fault properly??

ChrisR, Sounds good. No one has measured the temps, I presume you mean measuring the cold input temp (say the cold tap) and then hot output temp at the hot tap ?

Cheers for the info !

does the temp fluctuate or is it a constant 40?
also, how does the burner behave with the tap running?

there's a chance it might not even be the plate he. Best way to check is to remove it and have a look or do a temp check. could be a faulty dhw ntc
