So my lighting issues are solved, but suddenly yest. the infamous '6b' low battery problem reared its head. Have shut the fuse for all my upstairs lights to get some peace.
I've read all kinds of forum entries so I know which battery to buy but dont know where to begin in order to replace it... Help, please.

usually:
Enter code into panel.
remove panel front.
unplug existing battery (noting the terminals).
connect new battery - Red to +/Black to -)
refit cover
re enter code
leave for several hours to charge battery
test alarm/battery works - remove mains power, check alarm works etc.
Have coffee & cake. :p

How does that prove the the battery then?

Surely - Once charged - if mains power is removed then its running on battery.

If you would care to advise the OP further/better then by all means go ahead.
