is a diaphragm inside the diverter valve before i phone my engineer back

On the whole, yes, sometimes it's in a flow sensing manifold on the primary side, which might be incorporated in the diverter valve manifold but may be on a pump manifold.

There's also two in some toilet cisterns, one in others and some have non whatsoever.
 
It can also be a contraceptive device!

If you have found a competent boiler engineer then you should be able to trust him to know where boiler parts are located.

If he does not know then you need to find somebody else who does.

hes got another thread running about his 24cdi.......so yes bdog it is part of the diverter......depending on how good or bad an engineer he is he may spit his dummy out when you mention the boiler model.
