Hi All,
I recently replaced a dimmer (Crabtree 1G 2 Way 250w Dimmer) switch that was fitted to control a celing light with 5 x 40 w SES candle bulbs, the dimmer and lights have been working fine for about 4 months but last week the lights flickered for a few seconds then went out, the dimmer smelt of burning solder and was effectively dead. I replaced the dimmer with the exact same model from screwfix but the lights are very dim to start and dim very slightly. I have now replaced the dimmer with a normal switch and the lights are fine but ideally I would like to fit the new dimmer switch. I'm very confused as to why it worked before but doesn't now - any ideas would be very much appreciated.
