Just moved in to old house and one the rooms has a single dimmer running three wall lights and a small switched three round pin socket with a table lamp. Dimmer works great on wall lights, but obviously the lamp dims too. Is there any way of bypassing the dimmer for the table lamp so that we can control seperately?

It will depend on how it's been wired, whether all switchlines are at the switch or whether the lights have been looped in a daisy chain.
if the switchline for the table lamp is at the switch it will be a relatively easy job to seperate it from the others and add a switch for it. if looped you will have to rewire.
