i have 4 sets of led lights each with its own transformer 240v-12v step down. i am using on a dimmer switch, but just bought a 4 gang dimmer so that it is much smarter. the problem is the current dimmer switch has two wires in and two wires out (one pair from transformer and one pair to lights) but the new one has only three (common, L1 & L2) i have tried several combinations only to fail to illuminate the lights let alone dim them. i dont do failure so i must find a way to wire or else i will have to put up with 4 individual bulky separate 4 terminal dimmers. please help

You need a special LED (12v) dimmer. The one you have bought is probably designed to dim 230v. does it say 230v on the back?

If so you have bought the wrong type of dimmer.

How do you know that the transformers are not dimmable and/or the dimmer won't work with the transformers?
